Stay Active This Winter!

York Adult Education invites you to enjoy a safe and comfortable space for walking at York Middle School. Join us Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM to get your steps in and stay active, no matter the weather.

Choose Your Own Adventure: Walk at your own pace and choose from mapped-out routes with mileage markers.

Optional Challenges: Tackle the stairs for an extra boost or add variety to your routine with exercise stops along the way.

All Levels Welcome: Whether you're a beginner or looking for a way to stay fit, this program is perfect for everyone. Registration is required.

Power Query allows you to import and shape data. It has an easy to use interface, powerful tools to import and clean data. Power Pivot allows data modeling and calculations. It easily handles millions of rows of data and has modeling tools for efficient data storage and analysis. Power BI (Business Intelligence) is a complete business intelligence tool. It features incredible visual options, has simple built-in interactive options, fantastic graphs and allows easy sharing of data. The design of this course includes 2-3 hours of work with the software between sessions to gain maximum benefit from the sessions. This is an online class using ZOOM. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey included in your automated receipt so the instructor can tailor the course to meet your needs. You will want to have Microsoft Excel on your computer for this workshop and many people find it helpful to have two monitors though it is certainly not necessary to benefit from the sessions. There are two ways to accomplish this: 1) attach an external screen to your computer (contact our program if you need technical assistance with that); 2) using two computers (one for Excel and the other for the ZOOM meeting. Val Landry is a lifelong business educator and academic advisor focused on helping enrich and enhance students' educational and life purposes. He is experienced in college management and, as an adult educator, having taught at the Mid-State College and Kennebec Valley Community College. His teaching experience covers over 45 years in the areas of computer applications, accounting, and Quickbooks training workshops.  Instructor: Val Landry

Through hands-on exercises, you’ll take stock of your income, expenses, and savings to build a personalized game plan—whether that means retiring early, traveling the world, or just having peace of mind. By the end of the class, participants will feel empowered and motivated to take actionable steps in becoming part of the FIRE movement toward (Financial Independence, Retire Early). Bring a notebook, pen, and a calculator—your future self will thank you.

Anthony Corsino, owner of Zen Financial Planning, LLC in Andover, MA, holds a BS from Bentley, a Certificate in Financial Planning from Boston University, and holds other designations and certificates from The American College of Financial Services, The College for Financial Planning, and Villanova. He teaches financial planners nationwide in multiple university programs and serves as a subject matter expert at Boston University, Regis College, and through Greene Consulting, which partners with several universities including UNH and James Madison.

CPR/First Aid/AED Training

This American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED course uses a combination of video, lecture, and guided skill practice to teach participants to respond to cardiac and other health related emergency situations. Topics include basic first aid, response to environmental emergencies, warning signs of heart attack and stroke, CPR including AED training, and foreign object airway obstruction for adults, children, and infants. Certification is valid for two years. Participants should dress in comfortably fitting clothing that allows for movement, as the class includes both desk and floor work. No written test. Estate Planning

This class will begin with an overview of basic estate planning, including wills, powers of attorney, and health care directives. You will then explore how revocable trusts can help avoid probate and protect your privacy, and how irrevocable trusts can safeguard your assets from nursing home or MaineCare (Medicaid) liens. The discussion will also cover strategies to protect assets from life events such as business failure or the divorce of adult children. Kathryn Bedell, a lawyer based in York, Maine, will lead the class. With 31 years of experience, Kathryn specializes in estate planning, asset preservation, and probate matters.

Looking for in meaningful work? Our community needs individuals who want to make a difference in a child’s life. Children’s Behavioral Health Services are vital to Maine’s children with Intellectual Disabilities, Autism and Mental Health Disorders and their families. And the need in our area is great! As an integral part of the child’s treatment team, a Certified Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) has the opportunity to make an immediate impact while helping a child grow and develop to their full potential. We are excited to connect our community with this wonderful blended training and certificate program. This training will prepare you for employment through local social services agencies and equip you to work with children who qualify for services. The program can be started at any time and finished at your own pace. Learners must complete all 12 online modules to be eligible to attend the Live Day on Friday Oct 11th from 8:30-4:40pm. Once the modules are completed, you will receive free online bloodborne pathogen training. Child and Adult First Aid & CPR certification is required. In just 40 hours, our free remote training program can get you certified and on your way to a life-changing profession. Must be a Maine resident, and at least 18 years old with a high school diploma (or equivalent) to become certified.
