In this 6 week course, students will learn the fundamentals of drawing; line, value (light/dark), form, and creating space. The class starts with a focus on line drawing, exploring the different types of lines and their multiple uses. Form, value, and space will be addressed once the students comprehend line drawing. Students will receive one on one instruction focusing on individual needs and skill levels. The Maine Drawing Exchange is located in a beautiful, sunny, third floor walk up studio in the heart of the Old Port neighborhood.

Block printing is a process of printing an image by carving a linoleum stamp, rolling it with ink, and pressing it on paper. Just like a stamp! The carving process is very satisfying and your image can be simple or complex. Open to beginners!

Intro to Quilting

Calendar May 1, 2025 at 6 pm, runs for 4 weeks
This class will take you through the steps of making a small quilt from start to finish: cutting, strip-piecing, assembling the top & layers, quilting, and basting. Homework will be required each week to be ready for the next step. Emphasis will be on completion, not perfection! Sewing machines will be required, along with basic quilting tools and fabric in order to complete homework. Supply list will be sent out upon registration. No quilting experience needed. Basic sewing machine experience is required. Take Intro to Sewing at Factory 3 if you need an intro!

Would you like to become more self-reliant, able to hem some jeans or sew a button back on your favorite shirt? In this class, you’ll learn essential stitches and materials that you can take anywhere.You will learn: How to thread a needle, needle and thread sizes and when to use them, the backstitch, running stitch, whipstitch, attaching a button. You will leave with a hand-stitched needle case with all the tools needed to start sewing and reparing your own garments. All materials and tools provided.

Introduction to Oil Painting (online)

This class will provide students with the basic principles of oil painting that include composition, color, and value. Landscape and still life images will be used as inspiration in finding your own unique way of expressing yourself. Gestural painting, impasto, and staining are a few of the techniques that will be explored. Open to those with previous painting experience in addition to beginners. A brief meditation will help in letting go and trusting the creative process. A supply list will be provided when the class is determined to run. A Zoom link will sent to participants.
