This Q & A workshop is for people who are nearing retirement age (55+) who have questions about how Social Security actually works. There will be a quick 15-minute presentation to help you answer these questions: How does Social Security fit into your retirement income plan? When should you start taking benefits? What about taxes? The remainder of the workshop will be a question-and-answer session. A Zoom option can be available, if needed. Please email the Adult Education office at adulted@aos92.org after registration if you would like to be sent the link. There will be a storm makeup class on April 30, if needed. Limit 15 students.

You will learn the basic chords and scales of playing the ukelele. By the end of this 6-week class, you will be able to play songs for your own entertainment or to entertain others. Living Well with Diabetes - MS

Living Well with Diabetes - MS

A group-based, participatory class led by two trained peer leaders over 6 weekly sessions. Living Well with Diabetes was developed at Stanford in partnership with diabetes patients, diabetes nurse educators, nutritionists, and a diabetes specialist. Topics include: an overview of self-management of diabetes, nutrition/healthy eating, preventing low blood glucose, preventing complications, exercise, stress management, relaxation techniques, monitoring blood glucose, depression, positive thinking, communication, medications, working with healthcare professionals, sick days, skin and foot care, and future plans. Areas not covered during this program are the physical process of glucose monitoring, discussion of patient-specific medications, and insulin injection. Known in literature as the “Diabetes Self-Management Program (DSMP).” Participants use action planning, brainstorming, and problem-solving to identify and pursue goals for health. Limit 12 Students.

This class will cover selecting, growing, and harvesting herbs both old and new varieties, and how to use them in cooking. Students will also make a bit of herbal butter and fry a bit of garlic for sampling. Limit 10 students.
