Remember sitting around the campfire toasting marshmallows and telling scary stories? In this short course with Laurie Notch you will learn the history of the ghost story, why it is popular in cultures worldwide, and how to spin your own spooky yarn for fun and entertainment. Class takes place on Zoom. Students must have reliable internet, and an audio and video enabled computer, tablet or smartphone to participate.

Classes cover sewing basics like the tools you’ll need to get started, threading a needle, sewing by hand, and how to purchase a machine as well as how to choose and use a sewing pattern to put together a wardrobe of basic clothing pieces. We’ll make a drawstring bag in class, and a simple piece of clothing like a skirt, drawstring pants or unisex top. There is a $40 tools and materials fee payable to the instructor on the first night of class (includes fabric for your bag but not for the clothing piece). Additional patterns and materials will be available for an extra fee paid directly to instructor.

Humans have been hunting with bows and arrows for, at least, 60,000 years - six times longer than we have been building cities. Archery is surely a [nearly] global, ancient human skill, and humans have made bows out of wood, bamboo, horn, and other materials throughout the years. Learn to make a bundle bow! The bundle bow is a useful quick bow that can be made largely without the use of knives. All you need are a few sticks and some string to tie ‘em together. Bundle bows can be made to be very strong and accurate! We’ll cover arrow-making, in theory; everyone in the class will receive one factory-made arrow. ***Each child registered must be accompanied by an adult on the day of the workshop. Workshop fee is per child; accompanying adults have free entry.

Learn writing, editing, and how to pitch. This will be a collaborative and interactive experience that will take you from idea to a short film, using something as simple as your cell phone, or even a fancy camera. This will be a 100% fully ONLINE course with personalized one-on-one "check-in" sessions. The class will meet once a week as a group, online. All members of the class are encouraged to collaborate, assist as desired, and discuss with one another. While the instructor will be leading the course each week, there will also be one-on-one sessions with each participant (online). If you thoroughly understand the subject matter you are painting then you can paint with abandon and enjoy all the wonderful things that watercolor paint can do. In this workshop, we will spend our time coming up with individual methods to thoroughly understand our subject matter, compositional studies, value sketches, color studies and harnessing the power of creating a notan. Students will practice using these tools and then painting with abandon in limited time frames. References will be your own photos or sketches. Please note: This is a one day 8 hour watercolor workshop for intermediate and advanced levels. Students should be using professional tube watercolors, good quality brushes and surfaces. Bring your own lunch/snacks.

Experienced hikers and campers prepare and plan to join up to 8 adventurers to summit Maine's tallest peak with Registered Maine Guide Chris Toy. You must be able to hike for 4 hours with a 20 pound pack while gaining 2000 feet in elevation to sign up for this trip. *The trip will take three days and two nights.
