This course is designed to prepare the entry-level phlebotomist or those individuals seeking a medical career pathway with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to perform in a medical laboratory environment. The phlebotomy student gains confidence and professionalism in the art of obtaining blood samples for laboratory analysis through repeated hands-on practice and instructor feedback. Students are provided instruction in the areas of communication, medical terminology, proper specimen collection, basic anatomy & physiology, as well as complications and variables surrounding venipuncture. Upon completion of the course students will receive 3 credits through UMPI. The cost for this program is $1900. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.

***Preference will be given to those who complete (or start the process of) immunizations prior to the interview. This includes HepB, which takes several weeks to complete. These forms can be found here: Phlebotomy Immunization Forms.
Application deadline is August 5th and interviews will follow shortly after. Classes will begin on September 3rd.

Medical transcription is a desired field for most people trying to work at home. Strong typing, computer, and English grammar skills are essential. Medical terminology, formats, rules and regulations, jobs, calculation of pay, confidentiality, and tricks of the trade, all equipment, reference books, and course books are provided with the course fee. Classes are online for 16-weeks with a completion of 16-weeks to 6-month options. This is a State Certified Program., and you will receive a Certificate of Completion and Letter of Recommendation upon graduation, resumes and how to obtain a job are covered in this program. Program includes medical terminology, Anatomy & Physiology, and transcription. Pricing includes everything for the course and the field. Alice Haiss Scholarship Fund
Alice Haiss of Skowhegan worked as an adult education teacher for many years as part of the Somerset County Basic Skills Program. She was a literacy, basic skills, GED Preparation and English as a Second Language teacher at the program's Learning Center. She also taught GED Preparation, basic and life skills at the Somerset County Jail for years. During that period, she took part in a federal grant project called the Esteem Machine that combined the teaching of life skills with academic skills.
Haiss also worked for Educational Skills, Inc., where she facilitated Project Resiliency, and intervention program to prevent female juvenile offenders from being incarcerated at a youth correctional center. The program focused on the development of problem solving, communication, team-building, and self-esteem building.
This scholarship will benefit any adult education learner who are pursuing education or training in high demand, high skill, or high wage occupations.
Awards will be announced yearly at the Adult Education Graduation in June.

BEHAVIOR HEALTH PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION TRAINING (BHP)

As an integral part of the child’s treatment team, a Certified Behavioral Health Professional (BHP has the opportunity to make an immediate impact while helping a child grow and develop to their full potential. We are excited to connect our community with this wonderful ONLINE training and certificate program. Th s training will prepare you for employment through local social service agencies and equip you to work with children who qualify for services. This program can be started at any time and finished at your own pace. You will complete 12 online modules, then three 4-hour live (in-person sessions. Once the modules are completed, you will receive free online blood borne pathogen training and Child and Adult First Aid & CPR Certification. In just 40 hours, our free remote training program can get you certified and on your way to a life changing profession. Children’s Behavioral Health Services are vital to Maine’s children with Intellectual Disabilities, Autism and Mental Health Disorders and their families. The need in our area is great!
We are excited to connect our adult education community with this wonderful ONLINE training program. This online training is Free. The training will prepare you for employment through local social services agencies and the school districts.
The program can be started at any time and finished at your own pace. You will complete 12 online modules then 3, 4-hour live sessions, including the new ethics and boundaries training.
Once the modules are completed, participants that do not already possess CPR certification will be required to complete either in-person or blended Child & Adult CPR/FA training. You can take CPR through Adult Education or Woodfords Services.
The entire training requirements will take about 45 hours. Any individual who will be 18 years of age or older and have a high school diploma or equivalency upon completion of the course may register.
Behavioral Health Professional
with Woodford's Family Services, RSU 24 Adult Education
If you're great with kids and want to make a significant difference in the lives of children and families, consider this BHP training and certification. BHP allows you to work with children either in the school or home/community setting; it is required for direct care providers working in Children's Behavioral Health Services. Additional requirements include: current Child & Adult CPR/First Aid certification and completion of an OSHA compliant Bloodborne Pathogens training. Individuals must be at least 18 years old upon completion of course. Additional education requirements must be met to be eligible to provide MaineCare Section 65 services.
