English as a Second Language (ESL)

Note: This class will be offered virtually through Zoom. Students will occasionally be required to come to Skowhegan Area High School for testing.

This class assists students who are not native English speakers develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Instruction is designed to meet learners’ needs and can include helping participants with such important tasks as exploring how to talk with their child’s teacher, scheduling healthcare appointments, completing grocery shopping, obtaining a driver’s license, finding employment or learning about other valuable community resources. Students can enter the class at any time and there is no charge for instruction. Learners at all levels of English proficiency are welcome. For more information, please call 474-7553.

Beginning Level ESOL (Morning)

Students will practice reading everyday English used in the community, such as newspapers, doctor’s instructions, and mail. The class will also give students practice writing basic English sentences and paragraphs through letter writing, short stories and more. This course is for ESOL students who test between 191-200 on CASAS reading test (ESL 3).
No classes on 11/11 & 11/25.

Note: A student who misses 3 classes will be withdrawn. May re-enroll in the next session and when able to commit to schedule.
