In partnership with Franklin Memorial Hospital, AHEC, and the Academy of Medical Professions, Spruce Mountain Adult & Community Education is facilitating an all-inclusive sixteen-week certification course.  This class will set you on the path for local employment and the beginning of a successful medical career. 

Medical Assistants are responsible for a variety of medical office tasks from administrative, technical and scientific duties.  Must have quality human relations skills, too.  Some of the job duties include cleaning and dressing wounds, taking blood samples, administering medications, taking vitals, preparing a patient for EKGs, obtaining a patient's history, and assisting physicians during examinations. 

Our program provides virtual reality style classroom work as well as traditional style teaching for a blended learning experience.  Practicum will be performed during the program to ensure that the student has proper techniques and will be ready to pass the National Certification.  Upon completion of the program, you will sit for your CCMA (Clinical Certified Medical Assistant) national certification exams through NHA. 

$4,000 includes national certification, 6 practice exams, online study guide materials, books, resume assistance, and all other associated fees.  Initial job shadow and externships available through Franklin Memorial Hospital.

Certified Nurses Assistant - CNA Interest List

If you are seeking a challenging and rewarding career in the medical field, this course will provide you with the skills and experiences to be Maine State Certified as a Nursing Assistant. This regional collaboration has allowed us to offer this course at a reduced cost! Skills will be taught in an interactive classroom setting, and a two-week clinical experience will follow. The course will focus on nursing theory and application, including basic anatomy, physiology, and clinical performance. The course will also introduce you to several employers within our region. Prerequisites: students must successfully pass the CASAS testing and interview screening in order to be admitted to the program. Applicants are encouraged to job shadow a CNA before interviewing. Documentation of a recent medical physical, conducted and signed by a physician, is required before clinical. Students must produce evidence of the following vaccinations: Hep B1, MMR, Tetanus, Chicken Pox, TB and flu shot. Fee for background check is non-refundable. New classes begin frequently!

CLC Adult Education and LincolnHealth co-sponsor a FREE 180-hour minimum Certified Nursing Assistant training course. This CNA program is open to all adults by application only. Successful graduates are eligible to work in many areas of the healthcare field. The August class is closed but a new class will be starting January, 2021. The course is open to all adults by application and interview process. Applications will be available in November. You may call LincolnHealth Education (563-4540) to have an application packet sent to you. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED/HiSET in order to be considered for the course.

LincolnHealth/CLC Adult Education and Midcoast School of Technology are offering an “Earn while you Learn” opportunity. Through a paid apprentice program, you can earn money for your CNA training with an expected commitment to work in a Long Term Care setting for 18 months. An application and interview are required to be considered for this program. A limited number of applicants are accepted. This is a 40 hour course with 5 training sessions. Participants will learn safe medication administration procedures, vital signs, transcribing physicians’ orders, and how to document on a MAR (Medication Administration Record). Upon completion of this 40 hour medication course, participants will be able to administer medications in accordance with Maine’s regulations. Under the guidance of an RN Educator, each participant will be required to complete a clinical MAR in a licensed facility on 3 different residents to be eligible for certification.
