Are you interested in obtaining a USCG Captain’s License? Do you want to learn the differences between an Operator Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) license and a Master 100GT license, and what experience the Coast Guard requires for each? These informational sessions will help answer these questions and others about the two licenses. Also discussed will be the different methods for completing the course requirements. We plan to offer both courses in Maine during the Fall of 2024, representing the Captain School Key West/Miami. This information session is free, but please register in advance, so the instructor knows how many individuals will be attending and can send login instructions.

It’s like iPad Bob Ross! Come paint with us, digitally. Learn to use your iPad and Apple Pencil to create stunning works of art on this new medium. Paint along with your digital artist instructor Andrew Edwards and learn the fundamentals of building up a composition, be it a stunning landscape or intimate portrait or still life. Learn how to use the powerful software tool Procreate to and how to leverage these tools to paint in watercolor, charcoal, oil paints, you name it, digitally on your own iPad. Students should bring their own iPad and Stylus and be ready to get creative! All levels welcome, your instructor will walk you through step by step. If you are new to the art of drawing or a seasoned artist looking to transfer their skills to a digital medium, you will be right at home.

We will explore the practical benefits of using a basic form of AI called ChatGPT. If you have or have not used Google before to search for information, this AI will be a snap! Take your search, research, inquiries, and answers to questions to a whole new level! Find quick written solutions to problems based on your exact needs. Generate personalized text in seconds for invitations, letters, and any other materials you are looking to create. AI will quickly generate any text for you based on your interest. Instructor will demonstrate how to navigate and interface with Excel’s basic features. See how to create a simple contact list. You will view how to use calculations such as autosum and see how to generate simple formulas. Also, learn to use the fill handle, sort existing data, merge and center, move cells and ranges, and wrap text. These easy steps will be held over Zoom.

***This is ONLY the APPLICATION. Students must be interviewed and accepted into the course. Upon acceptance the cost of the training will be $1,700.00.   Course will only run with at least 5 students in the class.**

This course is designed to prepare the entry-level phlebotomist or those individuals seeking a medical career pathway with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to perform in a medical laboratory environment. The phlebotomy student gains confidence and professionalism in the art of obtaining blood samples for laboratory analysis through repeated hands-on practice and instructor feedback. Students are provided instruction in the areas of communication, medical terminology, proper specimen collection, basic anatomy & physiology, as well as complications and variables surrounding venipuncture. In addition to instruction students will complete a 2 week clinical experience.

Upon completion of the course students will receive 3 credits through UMPI. The cost for this program is $1700.  Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.

***Preference will be given to those who complete (or start the process of) immunizations prior to the interview. This includes HepB, which takes several weeks to complete.
