America's Boating Course

Learn the fundamentals of safe boating and earn the Maine state recognized certification that requires completion of a boating education course before operating most watercraft. This state requirement goes into effect in 2024 for anyone born after 1999. Class covers safety equipment, trip planning, navigation rules and aids, state and federal regulations, anchoring, dealing with adverse conditions and emergencies, communications, trailering, knots and lines, and more! The information is useful for operators of all types of watercrafts (power, sail, paddle) and is applicable for both ocean and freshwater boating. The course includes an examination for certification.

A materials/administration fee for the course is $10. Manuals are $28 if you want to buy one, payable at first class by cash or check ("Penobscot Bay Sail and Power Squadron") to the instructor.

This course is sponsored by the Penobscot Bay Chapter of the US Power Squadrons, America’s Boating Club.

Gnocchi/Kopytka (Potato Dumplings)

Learn how to make one of Poland's traditional dumplings from scratch. Similar to Italian gnocchi, we start with leftover mashed potatoes, incorporate our other ingredients, cook them and then learn how to finish the dish off to perfection. Sue will share her tips and tricks as we roll, form, cook, serve, and eat these tasty morsels of comfort food. Careful! These are addictively delicious.

Please bring containers to take home what we create.

Sue learned to cook authentic recipes by taking notes while her mother and aunts cooked. Sue loves to cook and share recipes, techniques, and best practices.

This course covers the basics of how to use Apple’s popular iPad. This class starts with the basics of how to log on using multiple methods from passcode to touch id to face recognition technology. Apple’s iCloud service will be discussed as the benefits of this service help secure your data as well as allow your data to be used across multiple Apple devices. The App Store will be covered as a way to find additional applications that may meet your varied interest and needs.  This class is covered over three 1-hour sessions.

Building on the skills that are acquired in the iPad Basics class, the primary focus of the intermediate class is the exploration of the applications that Apple provides for free as part of the iOS. Applications such as Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Messages, FaceTime and many others will be covered. If time allows, favorite Apps from the App Store will be presented. There are three one-hour sessions for this class.

Prerequisite for this class is participation in the iPad Basics class or equivalent knowledge. 

Please bring your iPad to all three classes.

Reiki is a philosophy and healing method originated in Japan for the purpose of maintaining healthful flow of Chi, bringing together physical, mental and emotional balance.  It is calming, relaxing, and easy to perform on yourself and other beings, including animals and plants. The feeling of this waveform of energy is described in Gendai Reiki Ho as "the energy of love harmony, and healing that resonates with human consciousness or spiritual awareness."

This school of Classical Japanese Reiki is particularly aligned with Nature and the aura of the heart. In this Certification Course, you will be empowered into Reiki (Level One) and learn how to sense and perceive, and utilize it using specific hands on as well as distant methods to reduce stress and pain, speed healing, increase intuition, manifest goals, and stimulate creativity. An original 30-page manual is included.

Class size is limited. Please bring something to drink and your lunch.

A staple in many Polish homes, Sue will share her family's golumpki (pronounced "gowumpkey") recipe and step you through the process of making the meat filling, how to cook the cabbage leaves, how to roll them, and most importantly...eat them!
