College Math Tutoring

Are you struggling in a college math course?  We suggest signing up for our individualized math tutoring program! This is a FREE service for students taking a foundational college math course, Algebra I equivalent, or Elementary Statistics. Participants meet with an instructor weekly in person or remotely via video conference to work on new math concepts and go over homework questions. This is a relaxed class time to ask your questions and work on the skills you need to be successful in your course. 

Offered January 2nd, 2024 through June 28th, 2024. Enrollment open throughout the semester.

College Reading and Writing Tutoring

English for Medical Careers

This class is designed for advanced English Language Learners with a medical career pathway. This course will build English language skills and vocabulary around careers in healthcare, and will also focus on test taking strategies, specifically for the CASAS test.  Materials can be accessed online and students will meet weekly with the instructor in person or via video conference.

Students should have a minimum CASAS score of Level B (210 or higher) to take this class. RSU 13 Adult & Community Education provides CASAS testing at no cost to students. 

Open enrollment and flexible scheduling throughout the semester.

Mathematics for College

This class is for students who want to review math skills before taking a math placement test or enrolling in a college math course. The class provides one-on-one instruction where the instructor and student decide together on which type of math to work on. Some students may need to rebuild foundational math skills and concepts before moving on to more advanced math. Others may want to brush up on their Algebra skills. The class objectives will be decided during the registration process.

Students may continue to meet with the instructor for tutoring help during their college mathematics course, if desired.

Statistics Fundamentals

Get a head start on your college level ‘Elementary Statistics’ course! 

Statistics Fundamentals is designed to introduce students to the unique vocabulary and concepts of statistics. The main objective is to increase student confidence and preparedness for the challenge of college statistics. Classes cover data collection techniques, data measurements, and display of this information in tables and graphs. Along the way, students review the proportion, decimal, and percent calculations fundamental to statistics.  Also included are basic statistics topics such as variation, standard deviation and probability.

This is an online course with students meeting weekly on Zoom with an instructor.

This class is for students planning to enroll in college or in college and expect to take "Elementary Statistics."

Chemistry with Lab

Free

with TBD, RSU #13 Adult and Community Education

For any and all students who are prepping for Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology or other competitive majors, this is an excellent opportunity to meet the admissions "Chemistry with lab" prerequisite. If you have been away from science courses for a while, this course is recommended to prep you for rigorous college science classes. Students who successfully complete this class will earn 1 high school credit. It will be offered entirely online, with required weekly review sessions conducted via Zoom. This course is provided at no cost to students through the Maine College and Career Access Services grant and RSU13 Adult & Community Education.

A required instructional period will be Mondays from 7:30-8:30pm on Zoom. An additional Zoom review session will be offered each week. Students are required to attend these sessions. If a student is unable to attend this session, they must communicate with the course instructor.

  This class is available for students enrolled in an Adult Education high school completion program, or post-secondary students who are enrolled or plan to enroll in a college or career training program within 18 months. At this time, it is not intended as a credit recovery program for currently enrolled high school students in the K-12 system.
