Gain the skills and confidence to write effectively in today's workplace. Using a series of writing exercises, you will learn how to compose clear business letters, memos, and emails and format them correctly. Brush up on punctuation, sentence structure, and basic grammar rules to give your documents a final polish. 

Course fee includes cost of book, $15.

Please note: the first and last day of this class will be held in person at Portland Adult Education.

Prerequisite: Basic Computer course or familiarity with computers

This intensive course is designed for intermediate English language learners who are searching for their first job in the US. Students will learn the job search and application process in the United States and will expand their English skills. Students will refine their customer service skills and learn financial literacy skills from ProsperityME teachers. This course does not require US work authorization to participate.

Google Suite for the Office introduces students to Google Apps including but not limited to:

  • Gmail
  • Google Drive
  • Google Docs
  • Google Sheets
  • Google Slides
  • Google Calendar
  • Google Meet

It explores the uses of these Apps and their basic functions which will allow the users to increase their productivity and collaboration. Students in this class will learn how to utilize these cloud computing tools to increase productivity, communication and collaboration at school and in the workplace.

Building off of Accounting 2, this course introduces other accounting processes and concepts for completing the accounting cycle. Worksheets are introduced that assist in the recording of year-end adjustments, closing the company’s books for a reporting period, calculating federal income taxes and the final preparation of financial statements. Other topics include distributing dividends for a merchandising business, interpreting a company’s results of operations through various financial analysis methodologies, internal and external auditing procedures and career options in the accounting field.

Prerequisite: Accounting 2 or instructor approval

Workplace Communication

Calendar Apr 23, 2024 at 6 pm, runs for 6 weeks

Learn how to more successfully and effectively communicate with peers, supervisors, and teams in an office environment. Skills covered include listening, oral communication that involves speaking assertively, positively, and clearly, and handling difficult situations in the workplace with conflict resolution skills. Other skills practiced will include customer service communication skills and communication issues in a team-based environment and how to ace an interview.
