Bridge to Healthcare Careers
with Multiple, Portland Adult Education
A 10 week program for students with interest in healthcare careers who need additional assistance building reading comprehension, test taking skills, digital literacy, work readiness, and career exploration.

English for Job Preparation
with Jean Pierre Akayezu, Mora Katz, and Bright Musuamba, Portland Adult Education
This intensive course is designed for intermediate English language learners who are searching for their first job in the US. Students will learn the job search and application process in the United States and will expand their English skills. Students will refine their customer service skills and learn financial literacy skills from ProsperityME teachers. This course does not require US work authorization to participate.

Accounting, Intro to
with Deb Seigars, Portland Adult Education
As an introductory course, Intro to Accounting teaches the planning, analyzing and interpreting of transactions that occur in a small for-profit single-owner business. These transactions are processed and recorded through an entire accounting cycle with the ultimate objective of preparing financial statements that summarize the results of operations for that business. Basic accounting principles are taught with emphasis on accuracy and business ethics.

Global Dance Party
with Emma Holder, Portland Adult Education
Joyful movement to music from around the world: Salsa, Merengue, Tango, Swing, Cha Cha, Reggaeton, Belly dance, African and more. For 45 minutes, participants will bust stress, boost energy and burn calories while using traditional and unique moves to fabulous music. Improvisation encouraged, all levels welcome. Career Planning for Educators
with Jean Pierre Akayezu, Portland Adult Education
This class is open only to accepted Education Academy students. This class will expose students to the job search, application, and hiring processes for careers in the US education system. Students will assemble an updated job tool kit including creating a resume and cover letter. Time will be spent explaining the educator certification process through the Maine Department of Education website and students will receive assistance in applying for an appropriate certification. Portland Public Schools staff will visit to provide mock interviews and answer employment opportunities questions. Students will take pro-active steps toward their future in this interactive class.

Google Suite for the Office

Google Suite for the Office introduces students to Google Apps including but not limited to:
- Gmail
- Google Drive
- Google Docs
- Google Sheets
- Google Slides
- Google Calendar
- Google Meet
It explores the uses of these Apps and their basic functions which will allow the users to increase their productivity and collaboration. Students in this class will learn how to utilize these cloud computing tools to increase productivity, communication and collaboration at school and in the workplace.

Microsoft Office Suite 2
with Barbara Mascarenas, Portland Adult Education
This class is intended for the person who has prior experience using Microsoft Office products. We will cover work related skills; building tables, mail merge and graphics using Word. We will create a slide show using PowerPoint that will include graphics, transition and animations. Additionally, we will explore MS Outlook and Outlook calendar. This will be taught using Microsoft Teams as the remote platform.
Prerequisite: Microsoft Office Suite 1 or instructor approval

Workplace Communication
with Taika Brand, Portland Adult Education
Learn how to more successfully and effectively communicate with peers, supervisors, and teams in an office environment. Skills covered include listening, oral communication that involves speaking assertively, positively, and clearly, and handling difficult situations in the workplace with conflict resolution skills. Other skills practiced will include customer service communication skills and communication issues in a team-based environment and how to ace an interview.
