Weekend Adventure to Cape Cod and The Nantucket Daffodil Festival

Boat America
with James Katz, Old Orchard Beach/Saco Adult Education

For all boaters on inland and coastal waters. This all-ages course is approved by the State of Maine, meeting boater education requirements for operators 16 to 25 on inland and coastal waters out to the three-mile line. This is the National Association of Boating Law Administrators-approved course, honored in all states, on inland and coastal waters, where boater education is required. Course ID card must be carried when operating on the water. Please bring a notebook and writing utensil.
James Katz holds a BA from Lesley College in Cambridge, MA. He has been a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary since 1996 and currently holds certification as a Navigation Specialist, Instructor, Vessel Examiner, and Safety Patrol Boat Coxswain.
Wandering Watercolors
with Russel Whitten, Old Orchard Beach/Saco Adult Education

Join other beginning and advanced students on outings to enjoy watercolor painting and build friendships with other artists. Learn to manipulate watercolor media and tonal drawing to recreate the appearance of nature with an awareness of forms and their surrounding elements. Our basis will be the study of perspective, composition, value, and color. Class location will be discussed weekly.
Prerequisite: Watercolor Basics.
Bring 1 small tube each of cadmium yellow (light), cobalt blue, and alizarin crimson; 1 paint palette (Russel says folding ones are ideal!); 1 round #10 watercolor brush; 1 inch-wide flat brush; 1 drawing pencil #2H; 1 eraser; 1 light board or piece of cardboard or portable watercolor easel; a lidded jar of water; two sheets of Arches watercolor paper, 140 lb. cold press, (optional) folding chair (approx. $80).
Note: Please purchase Arches, as the quality of watercolor paper is essential for handling the techniques you will be taught in class. Please bring any colors you already have.
Russel Whitten, a local artist and teacher, studied at The Art Students League of New York and Heartwood College of Art and is a member of The Ogunquit Art Association/Barn Gallery. Students adore his laid-back, encouraging demeanor.
Spring Plant & Bird Walk on the Saco Heath

What are the first native plants of Spring? What bird is making that call? Combine your love of plants and birds on this special walk to identify and learn about both, as well as how they work together to create the unique and special ecology at the heath! This trail, located on beautiful Wabanaki land, is moderately flat and may be muddy in spots, depending on whether we had rain recently. Half of the trail is a narrow wooden board walk with several stopping points with benches. Registration closes at noon on 5/2. Wear comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, sunscreen, and an optional brimmed hat or cap (which helps with both sun and bugs). Bringing binoculars is highly encouraged! Walk starts promptly at 9am. Rain date 5/4, 4-6pm.

Laura Grover is a plant and bird hobbyist, botanical illustrator for Fedco Seeds, and a mindfulness ambassador. She has led many plant identification and mindful foraging walks for people of all ages. She enjoys bringing people together to look closely in nature, practice mindfulness outside, and be a sensory animal in the woods.

Intermediate Golf Section 1
with Ryan Mondor, Old Orchard Beach/Saco Adult Education

Designed for players who have prior experience playing a round of golf and even up to three or four rounds per year. Review important aspects of putting, chipping, and full swing with irons and fairway metals. The instructor(s) will demonstrate variables that lead to different types of golf shots (i.e., low, high, curving right, curving left) and will also monitor applied practice and instruct accordingly throughout the session and develop simplistic drills and practice routines that players will be able to utilize after the course ends.
Required: Golf clubs (putter, sand wedge, 7 iron, and Driver), sneakers/golf shoes, and collared shirts. NO jeans, gym shorts, or T-shirts.
Ryan Mondor has 20+ years of experience in the golf industry, with time spent in Southern ME and Northern California. He is the Director of Player Development at Biddeford-Saco CC, where he works with golfers of all ages and skill levels.
Mike Caron attended St. Joseph’s College and a member of the golf team throughout and team captain for his last three seasons there. As a professional golfer, he spent winters playing on the West Florida Tour and FPG Tours until 2023 and is now the head golf professional at Biddeford/Saco Country Club.
Nature Photography - Live Online

Review camera settings, composition, and how to get great images of nature's best, like moose, birds, seals, and other subjects! Learn how to set up a blind to get great images. Discuss the best options in lenses for this type of photography and tripods to get the best stability for your images!
Preregistration required, with registration closing at noon on 5/12.

Steve McGrath is a professional freelance photographer and teacher with 25 years of experience. His love of the great outdoors led him to his true passion–nature photography. Steve was an active member of the Gateway Camera Club for many years and has won many ribbons and awards at fairs and competitions through the group and on his own. Many of his images have been published in school textbooks.

Eat Biddeford: A Foodie Walking Tour
with Kristen Bartlett, Old Orchard Beach/Saco Adult Education

Maine's hottest foodie town offers delicious dining experiences at various establishments like Palace Diner, Fish & Whistle, Nibblesford, and Sweetcream Dairy. Tour the town while exploring some of the best spots, learn to order wisely, and explore tips for enhancing your dining experience, all while supporting local and enjoying bite-size samples. Expect to stop at 5-8 eateries, try some samples, and learn about more hotspots that make our local foodie scene thrive!
Tour fee includes a guided tour, bite-size eats and/or drinks at 5-8 stops, and a booklet with a map and information about local eateries!
Note: Dietary restrictions cannot be accommodated, as the restaurants decide which samples they will provide.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing; bring a shopping bag & money for extra purchases.
Registration closes at noon on 5/16; no refunds, credits, or transfers after registration closes or if class runs on scheduled rain date.
Students will be notified, via email, of weather cancellation by 11am the morning of class (in the case of extreme weather–light rain will not cause cancellation). Rain Date 5/31.

Kristen Bartlett has been passionately immersed in the foodie and holistic worlds most of her working life and brings decades of experience and knowledge about both food and local producers of food through her former work as a local producer forager for Whole Foods Market.
Aerial Yoga Section 3
with Ashley Marie Jolly, Old Orchard Beach/Saco Adult Education

Classes in aerial yoga include flips, tricks, and inversions. By keeping the swing at hip height, it transforms into a hammock that supports you during backbends and inversions and offers a unique way to build core, arm, and leg strength. Flow and fly in your aerial swing during these 50-minute lessons, fusing the grace of yoga with the freedom of flight. Wear comfortable workout-type clothes but nothing too loose, and be prepared to go barefoot.
Ashley Jolly is certified in both barre and aerial yoga. Her main focuses are on strength, stability, and flexibility, as she finds these to be the trifecta of great fitness.
