Are you interested in working in a medical setting? Or do you just want to understand what your doctor is talking about? You can become fluent in a new "language" in just a few weeks! This eight-week intensive online course is a study of medical terminology, including word structure and formation, medical terms, their abbreviations and meanings, and correct pronunciation. Language from all body systems and major medical specialties, and well as terms related to anatomy, physiology, and major disease processes, will be covered. This course will teach you how to build thousands of medical words from prefixes, suffixes, word roots, and combining forms, many from Latin and Greek; define medical words by analyzing their parts; spell medical words accurately; pronounce medical words correctly; learn and recall common and acceptable medical abbreviations; and know how to use a medical dictionary. Medical terminology is a foundational course for anyone interested in becoming a medical receptionist, secretary, or transcriptionist working in any healthcare profession. It is equally beneficial for those who want a better understanding of medical terms as they navigate their own or a loved one's care. Students must have an audio and video-enabled laptop, desktop, or tablet with reliable internet to participate in class. We do not recommend using a smartphone.  Financial assistance may be available.
