Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, Part II
with Naomi Howe, Mid-Coast School of Technology Adult Education
This class is for those students who have taken Part I, or those who want to go ‘beyond the basics’. This class will take value scales and create value studies, use shading techniques and light studies, use viewfinders to render more accurate drawings and perspective, and take line and contour sketches to manifest quick and elegant gesture drawings. This fun class will give students confidence and insight into creating their own personal style and art. Materials: Drawing pencils, white rubber eraser, black fine-point pen, charcoal stick, and drawing pad (at least 8” x 10”). (Many of these materials will be available to 'try' and experiment with in class, so students can identify which are best for them). Please note: The book and workbook purchase is highly recommended!

Woodworking Basics
with Ralph Fink, Mid-Coast School of Technology Adult Education
For beginning woodworkers with basic hand tool knowledge, this intriguing 3-session introductory course builds your skills as we learn the process of creating a bat house, providing a place for bats to roost and raise their young safely. This project employs woodworking principles and techniques necessary for shop orientation and safety, project review involving building requirements, drawings, and building materials. Learn how to plan the work, build with various woodworking tools, and determine decorative elements and installation aspects. At the final class, students have a completed bat house to finish and install at home or donate! A student supply list is available upon registration. Each student will also need to bring a materials fee of $65 (cash or check made payable to the instructor) for the material kit they will receive at the first class meeting. You will also need your own safety glasses, hearing protection, lightweight work gloves, pencils, white artists eraser, and closed toe shoes.
