Introduction to Upholstery: Dining Chairs Edition

with Kate Hedlund-Groden, Merrymeeting Community & Adult Education

$275

Dining Chair Edition! This hands-on workshop introduces students to the foundational skills of upholstery. Over the course of six classes, students will learn to transform 4-6 outdated dining chairs into beautiful, functional pieces. Through guided instruction, students will become familiar with a variety of upholstery tools and techniques. Students will also learn how to select fabrics, measure and cut cushioning materials, and properly assemble a finished seat. Whether you're looking to refresh your dining room or gain a new skill, this course provides the perfect introduction to the art of upholstery. Course Highlights: + Learn how to reupholster dining chair seats using modern and traditional techniques. + Hands-on practice with a variety of upholstery tools: pneumatic staple gun, wooden mallet, staple remover, and pliers. + Guidance on fabric selection, estimating, and manipulation. + Basic seat assembly, padding, and finishing. + Safety procedures and proper tool usage. Materials: Students will need to provide their own fabric. All other materials will be provided. Recommendations on where to purchase fabric can be found on my website: khgupholstery.com. All tools will be provided for use during the class. What to Bring: Your chairs and fabric! *Be sure to have your new fabric selected by the second week of classes.* Please email a picture of your chairs to khgupholstery@gmail.com. This will help me estimate materials for the group and anticipate any details to mention. I recognize that vehicle sizes may prohibit people from bringing all of their chairs to the class. Please reach out should this be the case. If preferred, bring a pair of gloves, safety glasses, and/or mask to wear while removing materials from the chair. Old foam can be dusty!
