This is an all-inclusive 14-week Pharmacy Technician program.  This program has two options: entirely online, or our new live via ZOOM class that meets weekly. 

Pharmacy Technician is one of the fastest growing jobs in healthcare today. In this course, you will learn everything from the role of the technician in the pharmacy setting, to the basic sciences at the core of pharmacy practice, to preparing for the PTCB exam. You will learn complete drug information, including proper names, spelling and pronunciation, drug class, generic and trade names, route of administration, dosage and more for hundreds of drugs. You will be able to identify pills on sight with pill photos, gain a better understanding of how certain drugs work within the body with a concise review of relevant anatomy and physiology, and stay up-to-date with cutting-edge pharmacy practice with the latest information on new drugs, regulations, HIPAA guidelines and safety procedures.  All materials are included in the fee, as well as the National Certification (CPhT) Exam fee.  Payment plans available.  This is a live online course meeting once a week.  This course is also available on demand online.

Naloxone, also known as Narcan, is drug that blocks the absorption of opioids in the brain at the receptor-level. Opioids effect our respiration, which is why someone suffering from an overdose may stop breathing. By blocking opioid absorption, naloxone pauses its effects in the body. AMHC OPTIONS provides free Narcan (naloxone) kits and training to those who want it, and an increasing number of other public health organizations and health providers are doing the same.  Join this training to receive a kit and learn more about it.  This is an in-person class. 

Nick St. Louis of AMHC and the OPTIONS Initiative, works with local law enforcement and EMS agencies to support folks who are still using drugs and provide them with appropriate resources and referrals. He supports these folks by developing trusting relationships that open a continued dialogue that will, hopefully, end with the person entering recovery, however that looks for them.  He also educates the public on harm reduction, trains folks about Narcan and how to use it, and about Maine’s Good Samaritan Law.  Nick is in long-term recovery himself and is a strong advocate for the use of MOUD and harm reduction methods. “We need to keep people alive so that they can enter recovery when they’re ready. If you’d like to capture the beauty of coastal Maine lighthouses, this might be just the course for you.  You’ll start online focusing on camera settings that you may want to use out on the water.  Then you’ll have the chance to experiment and take lots of photos using different settings and sharing techniques and approaches  on the cruise.  The final online session you share and learn from each others’ experience and photos.   This workshop is for beginner and intermediate photographers. $180.00 does not include the $60 cruise ticket

Steve McGrath is a professional freelance photographer and photography teacher who has been creating images for 20 years.  Steve first began by shooting sports photography for local high schools, then weddings, and stock agencies.  His love of the outdoors led him to focusing more on his true passion.  Steve was an active member of the Gateway Camera Club for many years, and has won many ribbons and awards at fairs and competitions through the club and on his own. Many of his images have been published in school text books.

This is a 12-week Certificate program in Dental Assisting, one of the most high-demand careers.  The program is designed to teach all aspects of dental assisting and provide you with the skills you need to work in this field and pass a national certificate exam.  This program is taught by a dentist and includes Dental Assisting Certification, and includes an opportunity for internships.  We now offer an option for lab days, please ask for more details! 

The price of the course includes all books, exam preparation materials and fees for the DANB RHS® certificate program. Upon passing the DANB RHS®, you will receive a certificate of knowledge based on competency for that component from DANB. Payment plans are available. The classroom hours are live online with options for lab days in a dental office based on student's location and availability. This course is also available asynchronosly online and you can start anytime.

Become Nationally Certified in 10 weeks as a Phlebotomy Technician. Our course is all-inclusive and prepares you for national certification with live classes via ZOOM and in-person skills labs.  You will be able to perform basic phlebotomy procedures, evaluate patients for their ability to withstand venipuncture, explain the procedure and answer the patient questions, perform basic point of care testing, such as blood glucose levels on patients, prepare blood, urine, and other body fluid specimens for testing according to established standards.

Your instructor, Chris Toy is the author of 6 popular cookbooks, a private chef, and has taught Asian-fusion cooking for several Maine community education programs. Cooking students will learn how to prepare a variety of recipes from Asia, Europe, and the Americas incorporating traditional and local ingredients. Each meal will actively engage cooks with the tools, techniques, and stories behind the dishes being created.

Step back to a time when President Franklin Roosevelt, Eleanor, and their family escaped to their “beautiful little island” in the Canadian Maritimes, Campobello Island. We will be exclusive guests of the international park, staying in historic Victorian cottages. Workshop participants will explore and paint the same coastal scenery enjoyed by the summer residents at the turn of the 20th century.

All meals are included in the workshop fee, as well as specially planned optional evening activities designed to extend your learning from the day’s workshops, including a private concert by award-winning Celtic Fiddle player, Katherine Moller, in the Victorian parlor of Hubbard House.
