AMP Dental Assisting (Sep)

with Academy of Medical Professions, Ellsworth Adult and Community Education

This is a 12-week Certificate program in Dental Assisting, one of the most high-demand careers.  The program is designed to teach all aspects of dental assisting and provide you with the skills you need to work in this field and pass a national certificate exam.  This program is taught by a dentist and includes Dental Assisting Certification, and includes an opportunity for internships.  We now offer an option for lab days, please ask for more details! 

The price of the course includes all books, exam preparation materials and fees for the DANB RHS® certificate program. Upon passing the DANB RHS®, you will receive a certificate of knowledge based on competency for that component from DANB. Payment plans are available. The classroom hours are live online with options for lab days in a dental office based on student's location and availability. This course is also available asynchronosly online and you can start anytime.

Due to insufficient enrollments, this class is now available by appointment.  Please email adultedinfo@ellsworthschools.org or call 207.664.7110 to schedule a phone or in-person meeting with one of our advisors to enroll you in the program, and schedule necessary assessments to ensure a smooth transition for your path to college! 

This course is designed to help adults improve their writing, proofreading, editing, and revising to prepare for the general expectations of college English and college writing.  We will cover the basics of grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, paragraph development, and will eventually write effective essays with clear ideas, smooth transitions, and logical support.  We will practice planning, research, prewriting, and organizing our writing.  We will learn to write different types of essays, to properly format them, to cite sources, and to avoid plagiarism. Learning to proofread for punctuation, usage, content, and support will be emphasized.  This is an in-person class with asynchronous work on Schoology, a learning management platform.

Emily Nash brings many years of experience teaching adult education and has strong skills in designing curriculum to meet the real needs of students. She’s respectful and sensitive to the needs of adult learners and is always a good listening ear. She loves to read, and between stints as an adult education teacher, she is a seasonal professional landscaper. Emily is a student advisor, and teaches English, HiSET prep and Multilingual Learners.

Improve your flexibility, strength, balance and posture as you move in and out of a variety of yoga poses.  All levels are welcome.  Leave class feeling rejuvenated and relaxed.  This is an in-person class.

This class is designed as a drop-in class and, for the $90 registration fee, you may attended a total of 8 classes between 10/16/24-12/20/24.  The class meets on Wednesday and Friday mornings, 10:00am-11:00am.

Watercolor: Basics Plus (Nov)

Watercolor painting is an exciting medium; it flows and moves and does beautiful things. Instructor Mary Laury has been recognized for her work by the Maine Arts Commission.  Participants will do landscapes and seascapes in this 6-session course. We will work on sky, water, rocks, trees, and talk about value and composition. If you have never painted in watercolors we will start at the beginning. If you have painted before, you may pick up some new tips and tricks as well. We all learn together!  This is an in-person class; makeup class, if needed, 12/17/24.

Mary Laury served as the founding Executive Director of Schoodic Arts for All, an award winning non-profit organization celebrating the arts and culture in Downeast Maine for over 20 years. The botanical subjects and dynamic nature of Maine are Mary's passions. An experienced teacher, she has taught painting and drawing in classrooms and in the field for many programs throughout her career.

Soups made with love are a nourishing and inexpensive way to feed your family. In this series, we will share techniques, tools, ingredients and tips learned through years of cooking for family and friends.  You’ll learn techniques for preparing ingredients and bringing them all together, as well as tips on storage and serving.  A focus of the workshops will be the use of affordable and locally available ingredients, and adapting recipes to a variety of tastes and dietary requirements.  Handouts, recipes and a small container of soup for your family to try will be provided.  This is an in-person class.

All registration fees are donated to the Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry.    

Brothy Soups  When you want a lighter soup featuring key ingredients this is the choice for you. We will be preparing chicken noodle soup.  This workshop will feature choosing the right broth and ingredients for your family, lifestyle, budget and diet.  

Annie has always loved to cook for family and friends.  She started cooking when she was seven and was a keen observer of all the cooks in her family and beyond. She's worked in kitchens and also spent most of her childhood and early adulthood in western and eastern Europe, the Middle East and South Asia, so her palate is broad. She shares her love of cooking with family and friends through the preparation of food full of flavor. One of her priorities when she's cooking is to create a meal that accommodates all dietary requirements--a meal that everyone can enjoy!

This is a new date!

 

The Ellsworth School Department is looking for substitutes in all departments - teachers, ed techs, secretaries, bus drivers, and custodians.  Effective substitutes need to know how to access policies and procedures, as well as the facilities.  This workshop addresses these topics, as well as the application process, tools and tips for classroom management and instructional practices for substitute teachers.  It will be followed up by a meeting with school administrators at relevant schools. This is an in-person workshop.

This course certifies the student in cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills for adults, infants, and children as well as choking protocols. It also teaches competency in both Automated External Defibrillator use and Narcan.  This is an in-person class.
