West Coast Swing for Beginners

$25

with Elizabeth Pouwels, Ellsworth Adult Education

Calendar Feb 24, 2019 at 5 pm, runs for 6 weeks

Want to learn a partner dance but don't know where to start? If you've never taken a dance class, this class is perfect for the beginner. West Coast Swing is a versatile, fun-filled partner dance that is compatible with a wide variety of music, which makes it a good first dance to learn. WCS allows for both partners to improvise steps while dancing together. Your instructor will offer a pace at the level of the class and provide support and encouragement as you learn how to have fun with your partner and the dance. Come alone or with a partner - singles are welcome! Those who have taken beginner before are encouraged to freshen up their skills and the instructor will modify basics to add more challenge for those who have a working knowledge of the dance. Makeup class (if needed) 04/07/19.

Elizabeth Pouwels teaches for various organizations including the Maine Swing Dance Council and the Ballroom Dance Society of Central Maine, and is a two-time winner of Dancing with the Ellsworth Stars.

David Koenka grew up in a family of dancers and takes great pleasure in learning and sharing all he can about dance.

Wet Felted Spring Flowers

In this fun and colorful two night workshop, students will transform soft, quick felting short fiber merino wool, in luscious colors with aromatheraputic olive oil soap, warm water and some elbow grease, to create beautiful felt flowers. I cannot overstate the therapeutical and relaxing effects of wet felting and the satisfaction of recreating nature. $25 Materials kit will include fleece (students will go home with extra to make another few flowers), basic wet felting tool kit, soap and wire.

Wet Felting: Painting with Wool

$32

with Audra Christie, RSU 24 Adult Education

Calendar Jan 26, 2019 at 1 pm, runs for 1 week

Felting is one of the oldest fiber crafts. It is a process to create an object made with wool fibers. There are two types; needle felting (a dry process) and wet felting. Learn the process of both wet felting and needle felting. Adorn your handmade sheet felt with needle felted embellishments to create a wool painting to hang on your wall! This workshop is great for beginners and those who already have some felting experience. (Some upper-body strength is needed for the scrubbing process of wet-felting.) Students will take home a pack of felting needles and wool roving and have the option to buy other materials. Students should bring two bath towels, something to drink and $20 materials fee payable to the instructor.
