HiSET ® Tutoring, Prep, and Classes

The HiSET® has replaced the GED in the state of Maine. A student who successfully passes the HiSET® will be awarded a High School Equivalency Diploma. Intake, pre-assessments, tutoring, practice tests, and exam are free of charge to Maine Residents. Accommodations can be made for those with documented disabilities. This class prepares students for one or more of the HiSET exams. Upon completion of any one subject level, students will be referred to the Chief Examiner to sit for the exam. Student should plan to spend 3-6 hrs/week in class.

Includes both HiSET preparation as well as preparation to take the Accuplacer placement test which is needed for placement in SMCC community college classes.

From basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, fractions, and percentages) all the way to real world algebra. This class will provide individualized instruction to help you learn/improve your math skills to succeed in everyday life, the workplace, and/or prepare you for college!
Math and Technology Lab

The Math and Technology Lab is free for enrolled students to get extra help and tutoring in any math, distance learning or technology courses they are taking through our program. Our distance learning students can use this time to work on their courses with staff available to help as needed. No classes on: 2/22/19 and 4/19/19.
If you are not enrolled in our program but would like to participate, please call our office - 422-4794. A fee of $25 would be charged.
Math for High School Completion

Math for High School Completion (HSD and HiSET®)
We are excited to offer this class to help high school diploma students earn a math credit and to offer support to HiSET® students looking to pass or improve their HiSET math score. This course will cover math standards and provide the foundational skills needed to advance to higher level math classes. Rolling admission. Contact ABE Coordinator, Catherine Renaud at 892-1819 to register. No classes the weeks of 2/18 - 2/22, 4/15 - 4/19.

Pam Mallard has been teaching math for 17 years. She has taught all grade levels in General Math, Algebra and Geometry.
Pam has also worked with adult learners at L.L. Bean serving as a trainer for almost 10 years. Pam has worked for the Windham school district for 12 years and previously was employed by Scarborough’s school district.

This class focuses on basic reading, writing, speaking and listening skills to help you succeed in life and the workplace. If you haven’t had an opportunity to develop these skills at or below high-school level, and if you want to do so, here’s your chance! Whether you want to improve your reading comprehension to increase your understanding of the news, to improve your communication and presentation skills for everyday use in the community, or to prepare for college - this class is the one!
