College Connections Workshop

Calendar Mar 1, 2019 at 1 pm, runs for 12 weeks

Entering the college world can be a daunting and overwhelming process. In this low-key, fun-filled workshop, learn about and take the necessary steps in finding and applying to the right school/program of study for you. Enroll at anytime, even after the course has begun, as the topics are broken down into 1-3 week modules. Topics include the following:

  • Career interest inventory and personality profile;
  • Computer and technology skills for college success;
  • Explore Maine and other US colleges via internet and local college visits;
  • College lingo - what do AA, BS, FAFSA & EFC mean?;
  • Test taking, study skills and learning resources;
  • Local college prep and access programs, such as MEOC, adult education academic classes, etc.;
  • College and financial aid applications, including scholarships.

No class 04/19/19. Makeup class (if needed) 06/07/19.

Community Academy (formerly Learning Lab)

with MSAD 53 Adult and Community Education

Achieve additional academic knowedge and skills required to pursue a full range of career, secondary and post-secondary opportunities.  This course helps students prepare for and complete required training, education, and certification necessary for employment. Instruction emphasizes language arts and math skills.  If you are preparing to take the high school equivalency test (HiSET), working on a traditional high school diploma, or studying to improve CASAS scores, this class is for you.

This is a 45- hour, high school level English course designed to help students improve reading and writing skills.

This course is free to local students working towards their adult education high school dioloma. The course fee for credit recovery students is $20.00.

How do the various identities that we are categorized into – such as gender, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, and class, shape our experiences in our family, schools, workplace, and communities? Through discussions, books and articles, flms, videos, and analysis of media and popular culture, we will examine how individual experiences are shaped by broader social forces, and how they change over time and across cultures. (Eng. or SS -1 HS credit, college bound gain the academic, personal, social skills needed to succeed in college!)

Take classes and earn credits toward completing your high school diploma. We have traditional-classroom or small group

instruction, self-study and even on-site computer based learning opportunities. Rolling admission. Call ABE Coordinator Catherine Renaud at 892-1819 to schedule an appointment to discuss these flexible, high quality, and interactive solutions. No classes the weeks of 2/18 - 2/22, 4/15 - 4/19.

Catherine (Cathy) Renaud has worked in adult education for the past 11 years. She started working for WRAE as Adult Basic Education Coordinator in November of 2015. Cathy is a certified English teacher and holds endorsements in ESOL and Literacy.

Kathy Floyd has been teaching ESOL, HiSET, and High School Diploma at WRAE since 2009. She received the New Teacher of the Year award from the Maine Adult Education Association for the 2009-2010 school year.

RSU13 offers courses to help you obtain your high school diploma. Call us at 594-9764 to inquire about the program and if its the best fit for you and your educational goals. HSDC - High School Diploma Completion is offered at no cost to the test-taker. One-on-one HSDC tutoring and testing is available in our Adult Learning Center with skilled tutors. Testing accommodations are available for individuals with documented disabilities. Open enrollment. Call 594-5154 to schedule an appointment.
