HiSET Writing

HiSet is Maine’s general education development (GED) program. In this 6-week Zoom course, you’ll learn how to write an essay for the HiSET Writing Test.   The class will focus on organizing your ideas and providing supporting details in an argumentative essay. Grammar, punctuation, and writing mechanics will also be covered.  There will be opportunities for revising and editing with other students. Learn how to write your best essay!

Whether preparing for the HiSET exam, earning credits towards an adult education diploma, or working on math skills for career advancement, students will work within an individualized program to improve knowledge of mathematical topics, ranging from basic mathematical literacy to algebra and geometry concepts.

Materials and pace will vary, depending on student needs.

Students enrolled in this course have the opportunity to learn basic, everyday math skills, prepare for the HiSET math exam, complete credits for Adult High School diploma and/or brush up on math for college, in a relaxed, comfortable environment. If you have always found math to be a struggle, join our math learning lab to gain more confidence. Our instructors assess students and develop individualized programs to meet academic needs.

Reading & Writing Learning Lab

Students enrolled in this course will develop basic, everyday reading and writing skills in a relaxed, comfortable environment. This is a great course designed to help prepare for the HiSET Reading or Writing exams, complete credits for Adult High School diploma and/or brush up on reading and writing skills for college, in a relaxed, comfortable environment.

Science

Students will prepare for the HiSET® Science exam through practice with reading passages, and using charts, diagrams, and graphs to answer questions.

Classes focus on weekly topics in the areas of life science, earth science, and physical science, with plenty of group discussion and problem-solving.

Social Studies

Students will prepare for the HiSET Social Studies exam by reading complex texts on US History, world history, geography, or economics. Classes include class discussion about these topics and practice answering selected test questions.

Students will use a HiSET specific text, learn to read the material critically and extract the information needed to answer the questions. Come and learn about world events, have group discussions, and prepare for the test.
