A scribe is a physician collaborator who fulfills the primary clerical and non-medical functions of the busy physician or practitioner. The scribe focuses on data collection and its documentation to help establish a rapid and smooth workflow and ensure an accurate and completed medical record. This 8 week program provides 80 clock hours of instruction and is completely online. Cost is $1850. Year round online course, open enrollment.

This complex nursing task is to be performed under the direct on-site supervision of a licensed nurse only in long-term care nursing facilities and state mental health institutions. This standardized medication course will provide the basis of understanding needed for the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to administer medications accurately and safely. Medical Assistants are responsible for a variety of medical office tasks from administrative to technical and scientific duties and much have quality human relations skills.  Job duties include wound care, blood sampling, administering medications, taking vitals, preparing a patient for EKGs, obtaining a patient's history and assisting physicians during examinations. Our program provides virtual reality style classroom work as well as traditional style teaching for a blended learning experience. Practicals are performed during the program to ensure that the student has proper techniques and will be ready to pass the National Certification. Upon completion of the program, you will sit for you CCMA (Clinical Certified Medical Assistant) national certification exams through NHA. Externships may be available in your area.  Course fee of $3000 includes national certification, 6 practice exams, online study guide materials, books, resume assistance, and all other associated fees.  Payment plans are available.

Seeking a challenging and rewarding career in the medical field? This course provides you with the skills and experiences to become a Maine State Certified Nursing Assistant. A regional collaboration of Androscoggin County Adult Education programs has allowed us to offer this course at a reduced cost.

Skills will be introduced in an interactive classroom setting with a 2-week clinical experience to follow. Focus is on nursing theory and application, basic anatomy, physiology. and clinical performance. An introduction to several employers within our region is a plus! Only completed applications can be considered - Enroll now!

Prerequisites: Students must successfully pass the CASAS testing and interview screening in order to be admitted to the program. Documentation of a recent physical, conducted and signed by a physician, is required before clinical. Students must produce evidence of the following vaccinations: Hep B1, MMR, Tetanus, Chicken Pox, TB and flu shot. Fee for background check is non-refundable.

“Pharmacology” - Medication Technician

This course teaches information about medications and their administration (under nursing supervision). Drug interactions, side effects and record keeping are an important part of this course. Equivalent of at least one year of full-time employment as a CNA required prior to acceptance. Must be currently on the Maine State CNA Registry in good standing.Students are required to have access to a (nursing) drug reference book. Most employers will have these available on site. Note: students must pass a reading comprehension test with at least a 10th grade level for entry into this course.
