Calendar Apr 1, 2019 at 6 pm, runs for 1 week

Friends in Action will lead this volunteer orientation/training that will enable participants to become volunteer drivers who can take people to their cancer treatment appointments.  Cancer patients in Hancock County must travel long distances to get to the Lafayette Family Cancer Center in Brewer, the major treatment center in this area.  Radiation treatment for cancer is a five day a week regimen that lasts anywhere from four to eight weeks.  For those people who do not have access to a vehicle, volunteer driving programs like Friends in Action, Island Connections, and the Road to Recovery program of the American Cancer Society are available.  These people living in Hancock County are fortunate to have the help of these organizations to get them to their cancer treatments.

By the end of this session, you will know more about Friends in Action and the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center, what it takes to get people to and from their cancer appointments, and a little bit more about a cancer diagnosis.
