This informative workshop will provide attendees with all the information they need to enter National Service through the AmeriCorps program. The AmeriCorps is the program whereby citizens can Make A Difference in their community by enrolling to lend their energy and ability to advance a well thought out project and program. AmeriCorps members receive a stipend, fully paid health insurance (full time) and an education award that can be applied to any post-secondary school tuition/fees. Member terms are full or part time and there are many opportunities available, including the Augusta area.

Maine's compassionate end-of-life care option is the subject of a great deal of confusion and false information. Although Maine's Death with Dignity Act has been in place since September 2019, most patients and medical personnel are still unaware of it. Learn how to talk about it with your doctor, how to comply with the law or how to help a family member who might qualify. Registration closes at noon on 6/10.

Val Lovelace founded the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization Maine Death with Dignity and also serves as its executive director. She spearheaded a grassroots campaign from 2014 to 2019 to pass Maine's aid-in-dying statute, the Maine Death with Dignity Act. She is committed to providing factual information regarding medical aid in dying in the United States to politicians, healthcare professionals, patients and their families.

Malaga Island Historical Sea Kayak and Walk

Paddle 1.5 miles by sea kayak after an orientation and safety briefing with Master Maine Guide, Alice in her provided kayaks. Learn about the late Civil War mixed-race community and their eviction in 1912 by the state of Maine. Learn the prehistory of the island and its current use by walking the trails on the island stopping to learn about the different sites on the island. No buildings remain. You'll have a chance to eat the snacks / lunch that you brought at the southern end of the island. Afterwards we'll paddle back to our start. You must be able to walk unaided on uneven trialls. Five hour trip meets at 8:15 am in Cundy's Harbor (parking is about 1/2 mile away) and returns at 1:15 pm. Weather conditions unsafe for paddling will cancel this trip.

Alice Bean Andrenyak is a Master Maine Guide and Maine native who lives at Mere Point in Brunswick. Owner of Alice's Awesome Adventures and Maine e-Learning, she trains future Registered Maine Guides and outdoor enthusiasts in navigation, canoeing, SUP, sea kayaking, snowshoeing, nature studies, and overnighting skills , and is a former Guide's Board Examiner. She has been visiting Malaga Island for over 30 years and leads regular sea kayak and hiking tours of Malaga Island.

QiGong: The Eight Pieces of Brocade

QiGong is an Asian “medicinal martial art” developed in ancient times to provide ongoing health and fitness. This simple, gentle, easy to learn set of daily exercises is designed to regulate, strengthen and harmonize the organ systems and general energy flow of Chi in the body. The practice is very grounding and strengthens not only body but also mind. In these four classes, you learn the complete set of Standing “Eight Brocades”, along with breathing meditation, imagery and sound healing. The movements can be adapted for those needing to be seated. Class handouts for home practice are included. Please bring a yoga mat, if you have one and wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move. Chairs will be in the room.

Gianna Settin is a retired PhD Psychologist and Gerontologist and has been an alternative health provider and workshop presenter for over 25 years. Formerly through Avanti Healing Arts, and now in her coaching practice, she offers QiGong, Reiki and Meditation to support mental and emotional wellness. A long-time Reiki MasterTeacher, she specializes in Reiki with Animals and Plants and is a published author of the books Reiki: The Mystery Teachings, and Spirit of Trees, and the Healing Dance. Gianna lives in Sorrento with her dog Barnaby where she is happiest outdoors in Nature, gardening, hiking or reading a good book.

Contemporary Marbling on Paper & Fabric

In this class, we will explore the art of marbling! From suminagashi to marbled wood we will learn about this centuries-old process and find playful ways to test the materials and see what is possible. We will cover several steps of the process including how to prepare marbling colors, the marbling bath, and the surfaces to be marbled. In each class, there will be opportunities to play with color, design, and surface texture over the 4 weeks. We will briefly talk about the traditional marbling processes such as combing patterns, however, this class is more focused on the exploration of material rather than the mastery of traditional techniques. Each participant will leave with several pieces of marbled paper and fabric to take home and use in their own creative projects. $30 materials fee.

Shirley Anderson will sketch out your pet and mix up some paints and you do the rest! This class is designed for beginners and you will be lead step by step through the class.
