The HiSet™ is a series of five subject tests; Science, Social Studies, Reading, Writing, and Math. The HiSet has replaced the GED in Maine. Students are enrolled in HiSET Academy to help them prepare for the exam. Students are expected to attend an in person class at least two hours per week and also complete at least two hours of study online per week. HiSET Academy and the HiSET exam are free for Maine residents. Participants must be at least 17 years old and not enrolled in high school. Please call 207.941.6316 for a registration appointment for either the High School Diploma program or the HiSet.

Introduction to iPhone Basics

The vast majority of iPhone users rarely access all of the available iPhone features. In this course, learn to use your iPhone to the best possible advantage. Some critical features covered include Apple ID and password; structure of the iPhone (buttons and how they work); best apps to have and how to get them; how to text, phone, FaceTime, and email; how to use the Control Center; mastering Settings; updating operating systems; using key apps; and more. An additional session will include iOS 15 updates and the unique features of the newest iPhones (iPhone 12 & 13).

This course is appropriate for Zoom beginners as well as those who have used Zoom and want to learn more.

Maximize Your iPad’s Potential

Learn to increase your capabilities to communicate, create, and connect by mastering your iPad’s features. This course covers navigating your iPad, its Camera and Photos apps, the options available in Settings, ways to communicate through writing and video, plus how to answer and make phone calls. Plus, you will learn about the apps that came already loaded on your iPad like the Calendar and Siri, your virtual assistant. It is important that you have updated to iOS 15; but don’t worry—if you don’t know how, we will show you the steps. Finally, you will also learn about accessibility features that are helpful for folks with finger mobility, sight, or hearing difficulties.

In this asynchronous online course, BoomerTECH Adventures guides Chris, Jill, and Ed share their love of cooking and enjoyment for lots of different types of foods. You will learn how to prepare several tasty stir fries using traditional Chinese flavorings, make fresh pasta, turn leftover sweet potato into gnocchi, stir up a great fried rice, and give ramen soup a delicious upgrade. Personal fitness trainers work with individuals to help them develop the skills necessary to successfully engage in physical activity. The specific role of the personal fitness trainer will depend on the needs and abilities of each client, but regardless, the personal fitness trainer will play a vital role in the physical health of each client. This course will provide a comprehensive overview of personal fitness training. Through a variety of practical and theoretical applications, the student will learn how to assess each client and develop programming that incorporates different fitness methods, with the goal of providing the client with a comprehensive approach to fitness. Upon completion of this course, the student will be prepared to sit for the ACSM Personal Trainer certification exam, and will also be able to begin working with clients immediately.
