Students will read and write while they develop knowledge of different types of media. Furthermore, students will learn about the relationships between literature, composition, and film to gain an understanding of the complex interplay between film and literature. Digital literacy means knowing how to use modern technology to communicate effectively with others, and to make good judgments about communication from others. In this course, we will explore different types of technology used in a variety of settings. We’ll explore common scams and how to avoid them, effective ways to search for information online, and how mobile devices differ from other computers. This course provides instruction in basic math computation. We will explore the place value system; the meaning of the four basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and their application to whole numbers; the language of math and how to translate between mathematical language and English; basic geometric concepts; simple probability; measurement; and the meaning of fractions and decimals. This course will lay the foundation for future math courses, in particular Foundations of Algebra.
